SULAIMANI,— A Kurdish journalist and activist was wounded in a targeted shooting in the city of Sulaimani on Tuesday evening, authorities said, highlighting ongoing risks for reporters in the region. Karwan Anwar, head of the Sulaimani Journalists Syndicate, condemned the attack. “We demand that those responsible be held accountable.” Anwar confirmed that he had spoken with Mamand after the shooting and that the journalist remains alert. Diyari Mohammed, director of the Metro Center for Journalists’ Rights, described the attack as an attempted assassination. Colleagues reported that Mamand remains under medical care and is expected to recover.
