DARABANDIKHAN,– A young Kurdish woman was killed by her husband in the town of Darbandikhan in Sulaimani province in Iraq’s Kurdistan region, authorities said on Friday. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about gender-based violence in the Kurdistan Region. According to Rojnews, 21 women have been killed so far this year, while 17 others died in suspicious circumstances. The same figures also recorded four cases in which security forces in Sulaimani used violence against protesting female teachers and activists. Separately, in June 2025, the Women’s Legal Assistance organization (WOLA) said that 13,017 cases of domestic and gender-related violence were documented across Iraqi Kurdistan Region during 2024.
