SULAIMANI,– Shaswar Abdulwahid Qadir, a businessman and politician, has appointed a committee to run the New Generation Movement (NGM) (Newey Nwe) while he faces legal challenges, local broadcaster NRT reported.
The broadcaster said Abdulwahid handed full powers to a seven-member team to oversee political and election matters.
Members include Shaswar’s sister, Srwa Abdulwahid and Kurdawan Jamal, who head the movement’s blocs in the Iraqi and Kurdistan parliaments.
The New Generation Movement currently holds 15 seats in the Kurdistan parliament and nine in Iraq’s parliament, making it the largest opposition force in the region.
The Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Finance announced last week that 60 properties tied to Abdulwahid’s Chavi Company would be auctioned.
