QARAHANJIR,— The Kurdistan Communist Party headquarters in Qarahanjir (Qerehencîr) district came under fire Monday evening, officials said. Hiwa Omer, deputy secretary of the Kurdistan Communist Party, told reporters the building and several vehicles sustained heavy damage but there were no casualties. Omer said the attack was carried out by assailants in a Nissan Patrol on the road linking Chamchamal and Qarahanjir. He added that the gunmen used multiple weapons, though it was unclear how many people were in the vehicle. The Kurdistan Communist Party, active in the region for decades, did not comment further on whether the incident was linked to ongoing political disputes.
