As a professor once said to me, “It’s high time we spread the culture of hope in Kurdistan.” That became the heartbeat of my novel, Lingering Faith and of my journey as a writer. The Kurdish people share language, culture, and collective memory, but political borders have fractured that unity. That is what Lingering Faith became for me: a voice for the many stories unheard for so long. Writing Lingering Faith helped me understand that while history may not have always been on our side, we are not without power.
