BAGHDAD,— Iraq has signed a joint operations agreement with France’s TotalEnergies, QatarEnergy LNG and the state-run Basra Oil Company to manage the Artawi oil field, the office of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani said Sunday.
The arrangement is part of the Gas Growth Integrated Project, an initiative involving TotalEnergies, QatarEnergy and Basra Oil Company.
Officials said the plan also covers renewable energy development and is aimed at lowering Iraq’s energy import costs.
The meeting also included an announcement on the Common Seawater Supply Project, which will handle and transport 5 million barrels of seawater a day to southern Iraq’s oil fields, according to QatarEnergy.
Sudani, speaking during the event, said the deals reflect increased international investment in Iraq’s energy sector.
