WASHINGTON,– The United States on Wednesday designated four Iran-backed Iraqi militias as foreign terrorist organizations, a move officials said aligns with U.S. President Donald Trump’s directive to impose maximum pressure on Tehran. The State Department announced that Harakat al-Nujaba, Kata’ib Sayyid al-Shuhada, Harakat Ansar Allah al-Awfiya, and Kata’ib al-Imam Ali are now listed as Foreign Terrorist Organizations. “This action will empower our prosecutors to dry up funds for these terrorist groups,” Wilson said in a statement. Harakat al-NujabaThe State Department designated Harakat al-Nujaba and its leader, Akram al-Kabi, as Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGTs) in 2019. Harakat Ansar Allah al-AwfiyaThe department listed Harakat Ansar Allah al-Awfiya and its leader Haydar Muzhir Ma’lak al-Sa’idi in 2024.
