The Department for Education has been approached for clarity on how much of a pupil’s post-16 pathway schools will have to map, what “supported by Ofsted” means, and how the “safety net” policy will work. Schools already have a legal duty to provide careers advice to their pupils, but are not expected to guarantee them a post-16 pathway. It is not clear what additional duties will be placed on schools, and whether they will be statutory.
