A24’s The Smashing Machine, a biographical sports drama written and directed by Benny Safdie, was based off of the 2002 documentary, The Smashing Machine: The Life and Times of Extreme Fighter Mark Kerr. Starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the MMA fighter himself, it tells the true story of his life, with Blunt portraying Kerr’s former wife, Dawn Staples.
