Morocco’s parliament has called an emergency meeting with Health Minister Amine Tahraoui to address mounting concerns over the state of the country’s health system as Gen Z protests sweep across the country over the weekend.
The parliamentary commission on social sectors announced that it will meet on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. in Rabat.
Lawmakers from several political groups requested the session to question the minister about the “current situation of the health system and the measures being taken to accelerate its reform in order to guarantee citizens’ right to healthcare and health coverage,” according to an official statement.
The move comes as Morocco faces a wave of youth-led protests, driven largely by Generation Z, demanding better public services in health and education.
Protesters say that hospitals remain overcrowded, underfunded, and short on staff, while schools suffer from overcrowding and inadequate facilities.
