Valencia CF filed Monday a lawsuit against Netflix and Brazilian production company “Conspiraçao Films,” accusing them of distorting facts in the documentary “Baila, Vini,” and wrongly portraying Mestalla fans as racists. The case was submitted to Valencia’s First Court after months of warnings and failed pre-litigation attempts, Footmercato reported. According to Valencia, fans were chanting “tonto” in Spanish, which means silly or fool; however, the subtitles on the Netflix documentary showed the word “mono,” which means monkey. Vinícius Jr denounced racist insults from the stands, forcing the referee to stop the game. The club says it acted quickly to identify and punish the offenders and rejects being portrayed collectively as racist.
