Two people taken to hospital after serious crash shuts A66

The road was closed in both directions between the A66 at Scotch Corner and A67 at Bowes, sparking “standstill” traffic around the scene.
The North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) sent several crews to the scene and worked alongside teams from the Great North Air Ambulance Service.
One patient was transported by air to James Cook University Hospital, and another was transported by road to Darlington Memorial Hospital.
“Durham Police previously said: “We are currently dealing with a road traffic collision on the A66 near Bowes.
A GNAAS spokesperson said: "Our team were activated at 10.45am to reports of a road traffic collision in Bowes.
