After a record-breaking blitz of the Sierra Nevada’s 14ers, mountaineer and trail ultramarathoner Kilian Jornet has two peaks left on his epic quest. Jornet’s adventure, dubbed States of Elevation, involves climbing all the 14,000-foot peaks in the Lower 48 and traveling between them by foot and bicycle. After a night in a Bishop motel, he bicycled across the Owens River Valley and climbed White Mountain on Sept. 27. Remaining are Mount Shasta and Washington’s Mount Rainier — and at least another 900 miles of bicycling to get to those peaks. This past July, he returned to the Western States Endurance Run, where he had claimed the title as a 23-year-old.
