The statue, revealed on Saturday as part of the town’s Tina Turner Heritage Day celebration, stands outside Carver High School where Turner studied during her youth. The bronze sculpture depicts the “Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll” mid-performance, wearing a pleated skirt and t-shirt while holding a microphone. Fans have compared the oversized mane to “a pom pom,” “a drum major hat,” “an astronaut helmet,” and “a doodle bop.”“Take that damn POM POM off my auntie head,” wrote one commenter on a video of the artwork.
