TyreSafe, a charity that raises awareness of tyre safety, has started its campaign to inform young drivers about the dangers of illegal tyres. This coincides with the National Police Chiefs’ Council’s (NPCC) Operation Spotlight, a road safety initiative targeting young drivers, running from Monday, September 22 to Sunday, October 5. The campaign stresses the severe penalties for driving with unsafe or illegal tyres, which include fines of up to £2,500 and three penalty points per tyre. For new drivers in their first two years, this means just two illegal tyres could lead to an automatic licence revocation. The campaign focuses on TyreSafe’s ACT message – air pressure, condition, tread – arming young drivers with practical knowledge to avoid breakdowns, collisions, fines and penalty points.
