Review: Friday Night Is Music Night at the Lighthouse
[]
Bournemouth Echo | News
Friday Night is Music Night is as much a British radio institution as The Archers, the Shipping Forecast, Desert Island Discs, Any Questions, Sports Report and Tony Blackburn.
It was first aired on the Light Programme in 1953, then Radio 2 (where it became Sunday Night is… for a while) before switching to Radio 3 last year.
Singers Ashley Day, Emma Williams, Hayden Oakley and Chumisa Dornford-May were in fine voice as they performed a string of classics, with four-time Olivier-nominated Williams the stand-out star.
Then the familiar Friday Night is Music Night theme confirmed the end of the broadcast.
For once there’s no need to be sorry you missed it – the whole performance is available on BBC Sounds.
