After seven years of investigations, Colombia’s Special Jurisdiction for Peace (JEP) has finally issued its first sentences. The Peace Court has officially recorded 6,402 victims of the “false positives,” but for years, victim advocacy groups have claimed the true number is much higher. It forms but a small part of the JEP’s investigations into the false positives cases nationally. Three other officers refused to participate in Peace Court processes. The FARC disarmed under promises that they would be reincorporated into society in return for cooperation with Peace Court investigations.
