Senate Okays Extension of Emergency Rule in Borno, Adamawa, YobeMuyiwa Bamidele, AbujaThe senate has passed a resolution approving the extension of the state of emergency for another six months in the three troubled North Eastern Nigerian states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states. The senate approved the extension of the emergency rule at the meeting of the committee of the whole house as most of the senators threw their weight behind the extension. The senate argued that the extension was necessary to consolidate on the gains achieved by the military in the last six months in the troubled states. In another development, the senate approved the presidential request for the National Assembly joint seating for the presentation of the 2014 Budget. As a result of the approval, President Goodluck Jonathan is expected to present the next year ‘s budget estimates to the National Assembly next week Tuesday.
