Plans submitted in July generated a number of objections from local residents and a councillor, who were all ardently against the plans, highlighting a number of concerns, including light pollution and traffic, as well as worries about litter and antisocial behaviour. Middlesbrough Council’s planning department, who made the refusal decision, gave three reasons. Officers highlighted a “poor design and layout”, which would lead to parking and servicing problems. The land put forward for planning permission sits next to the existing petrol station.
