More infoCouncillors have unanimously backed a masterplan drawn up to extend and increase capacity at a town cemetery - noting "doing nothing is not an option." It comes after a report outlined initial proposals for the future of Stranton Cemetery and Crematorium, which has "reached a critical point in its lifespan." Initial proposals have therefore been brought forward to extend the 30-acre Stranton Cemetery to the west of the existing site, onto the former allotments. They added should Stranton not be extended, the lifespan of West View Cemetery, which has capacity for burials for approximately 48 years, would "fall significantly." We need to invest in the land and the crematoria so doing nothing is not an option."
