Alpina is a case in point: from its racing roots in a small Bavarian town in the late Sixties, Alpina creatively co-existed with the BMW mothership as it constructed elegantly modifed cars that spoke to a small coterie of very astute buyers worldwide. “The new cars will be part of the 300km/h club, but we’re entering this luxury space with extraordinary capability, not with superficial claims or lots of logos,” BMW Alpina design boss Max Missoni tells GQ. So to the Luce, its first all-electric car, and right there is the major challenge: the Ferrari faithful detest the idea of going electric.
