“Go big or go home.” It’s an expression you don’t hear so much these days. So the big homes on big plots that have often filled the pages at the center of our annual Record Houses issue have been replaced this year with more modest structures in more dense urban settings. What these abodes have in common with Record Houses of years past is a thoughtful investigation of form, light, materials, and craft. From this cohort, take for example, the house (or rather Three Houses) on the cover. It’s what we at RECORD like to call a hedgehog—perhaps not the most elegant, but unique and unmistakable.
