Argentine regulators moved to curb demand for dollars in the financial market, the latest government effort to prevent the peso weakening beyond its trading band.
The norm, which effectively blocks market participants from buying dollars using short-term peso financing, is another example of how the libertarian administration of President Javier Milei is willing to intervene in the market to defend the peso.
It has already stepped up the purchase of dollar futures and moved to restrict liquidity in the market.
The exchange rate is now dangerously close to the upper level of the band, closing on Monday at 1,467 pesos per dollar.
Bonds maturing in 2035 were down to levels not seen in almost a year, trading below 53 cents on the dollar.
