Some, including Amit Puntambekar, of Ash’s Shop in Fenstanton, Cambridgeshire, asked staff what they wanted and because his staff indicated they wished to work he has decided to remain open. Paul Cheema, who operates stores in Coventry, said he would close between 10am and 4.30pm. Others considering whether to stay open or shut were influenced by what their wholesalers were doing. Among the wholesalers, many were opening for limited hours while some, including Dhamecha, are shutting all day. Those independent convenience stores that chose to close completely are doing the same as many major supermarkets, which have said they would close all day.
