Workers of the Bihubar Tea Garden under Sapekhati Mouza in Charaideo district staged a two-hour protest today, demanding urgent improvement of medical facilities in the estate.
The agitation, spearheaded by the Assam Tea Tribes Students' Association (ATTSA), Sapekhati branch, highlighted issues such as lack of a permanent doctor, absence of ambulance services, and shortage of essential medicines.
The protesters also submitted a five-point memorandum to the garden manager, Shashibhushan Srivastav, seeking resolution of the issues within a month.
The memorandum was signed by ATTSA Sapekhati branch president Deb Gowala and secretary Uttam Kurmi.
The demonstration, attended by over 100 workers and ATTSA activists including branch secretary Kamal Gor and organizational secretary Gobin Kurmi, concluded with a vow to continue the movement until the demands are fulfilled.
