GENEVA, Switzerland, June 5, 2025 (ENS) – The lead lawyer of a prominent Salvadoran human rights group representing the families of Venezuelan immigrants imprisoned in El Salvador after the Trump administration had them deported has been arrested. “The enforced disappearance of human rights defenders is a strategy often used to spread terror,” the experts warned. Special Rapporteurs, Independent Experts and Working Groups are part of what is known as the Special Procedures of the Human Rights Council. Special Procedures’ experts work on a voluntary basis; they are not UN staff and do not receive a salary for their work.
