Man caught with kitchen knife on south Essex street avoids jail

Darren Burdett, 32, of Manor Road, Grays, was found with a kitchen knife on the same road in Grays on September 12, 2025, without good reason.
He pleaded guilty at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on September 13, 2025, and was sentenced to three months in prison, suspended for 12 months.
Burdett must also complete up to ten days of rehabilitation activity during the supervision period.
The knife was ordered to be forfeited and destroyed.
He was told to pay £85 in prosecution costs and a £154 victim surcharge.
