Ultra fast fashion giant Shein does not comply with OECD Guidelines for multinationals on human rights, wages and the environment, according to the results of a French investigation. The OECD’s National Contact Point (NCP) has published the results of a probe into the Chinese-owned company which it launched following complaints in 2023 from two French MPs. “This is the most comprehensive investigation into the ultra fast fashion phenomenon conducted by a public institution,” said Dominique Potier, one of the French lawmakers who lodged the complaint. It also regrets that Shein does not publish its factory audit grid, any mapping of its activities or supply chain, or its social and environmental impacts, other than calculating greenhouse gas emissions. Although it acknowledges the company has made efforts to formalise a sustainability policy and share its initial results.
