Transit police might soon watch more than just stations and trains in Charlotte. The city council votes tonight on expanding their reach to nearby streets and walkways. This change would put officers in charge of keeping watch over the areas around transit centers. A passenger, Iryna Zarutska, lost her life in a Blue Line stabbing on Aug. 22. The new rules would stretch police coverage to spots like the Charlotte Transportation Center and the Rail Trail.
