EU staff in Luxembourg and their families will no longer have to pay bills upfront at two hospitals in the country from Wednesday, under a deal which will see the scheme rolled out at other facilities in the coming months. The agreement, signed on Friday between the European Commission and the Luxembourg Hospital Federation (FHL), means EU employees and their families covered under the bloc’s Joint Sickness Insurance Scheme (JSIS) will no longer have to pay any additional costs in advance in Luxembourg hospitals before later seeking reimbursement. Also read: The CNS explainedIt means that the majority of hospital procedures will be paid for directly by the JSIS, while administrative procedures “will be digitised wherever possible”, the Luxembourg health ministry said in a press release on Friday. The agreement will apply at the Hôpitaux Robert Schuman (HRS) and at the Centre hospitalier de Luxembourg (CHL) from 1 October, and will later be introduced at the Centre Hospitalier Emile Mayrisch (CHEM) and the Centre Hospitalier du Nord (CHdN) “in the coming months”, the press release noted.
