TWO Australian energy giants will begin vehicle-to-grid trials for compatible EVs that aim to allow customers to directly manage their home and transport energy needs. AGL has announced it has launched its residential vehicle-to-grid (V2G) trial that will involve selected EV models made by Hyundai, Kia, BYD and Zeekr. The second V2G announcement is from Origin that has partnered with BYD and EV charging infrastructure company StarCharge to begin trials of Australia’s first EV subscription bundled with a bi-directional charger and access to free home EV charging. Bi-directional charging (V2G) allows EV drivers to charge the car from the grid or from their solar system, and then also send electricity back to the grid. Ms Gasmier said that the trial will allow AGL to use feedback from participants to roll out a V2G proposition for AGL’s customers with EVs in 2026.
