The proposal is designed to prioritize healthy food purchases, discourage items high in added sugar and heavily processed products, and expand support for Missouri’s agricultural industry.
Executive Order 25-30, signed by Kehoe, directs the Social Services director to prepare and submit the waiver.
The order emphasizes a shift toward nutritional value and state-grown food products as central components of Missouri’s food assistance program.
Under the Trump administration, states are taking action to ensure that taxpayer dollars are better used to promote healthy, nutritious food purchases.
That includes strengthening existing efforts such as the “Double Up Food Bucks” program, which increases benefits for healthy food purchases.
