Under the proposed law, the family of a deceased parliamentarian would pocket a gratuity if the NAM had served at least one year of their five-year term.
Likewise, MPs who voluntarily resign or are ousted by their electorate would still walk away with a generous slice of taxpayer money.
Even individuals who only step in to complete a residual term after the death, resignation, or recall of another NAM stand to benefit from the scheme.
