Starbucks is cutting back. The Seattle-based chain closed nine cafés across the Denver metro area in recent days, including one in REI’s Denver flagship store at 1416 Platte St. and two in downtown office towers — at 1670 Broadway St. and 1900 16th St.It’s part of a wave of closures across the country. Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol announced last week that the company’s North American store footprint would shrink by 1% this year. REI, which owns the real estate for its flagship store, did not respond to a request for comment on the future of the Starbucks space.
