Kent Police then established a cordon near the scene, with the town’s historic High Street shut between Northgate to the Esplanade.
A Ministry of Defence bomb disposal team was called to the scene as a precaution.
A police spokesperson told KentLive: “Kent Police was called at 5.23pm on Monday 29 September to a report of a suspicious item at a residential property near Corporation Street, Rochester.
"Officers attended and placed a cordon near the scene while a Ministry of Defence bomb disposal team attended as a precaution.
