Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has declared that the long-standing envelope system of budgeting will soon be replaced once President Bola Tinubu’s tax reforms are fully implemented. He explained that the envelope system, which forces ministries and agencies to make do with limited allocations, has persisted due to Nigeria’s inadequate revenue base. He noted that recent budgets for education and health showed gradual improvements, but stressed that broader gains would come with the tax reform initiative. “The good news today is that both the National Assembly and Mr President have come up with a revolutionary initiative,” Abbas said. Abbas urged youths to uphold honesty and transparency in their daily lives, saying such values bring trust and success.
