A randomised control trial of 13,000 UK consumers saw significant bill reductions using AI-managed electric vehicle (EV) charging. The Centre for Net Zero (CNZ), the energy research and artificial intelligence (AI) institute responsible for predicting the future of energy demand, conducted the trial. CNZ evaluated the impact of the AI-managed EV charging tariff, to understand the role of AI in automating energy demand. It found that using AI-managed EV charging led to average annual bill savings of around £340 in the trial, or approximately £650 if consumers were to switch from a standard flat tariff. Peak household electricity use, from 4.30-8.30pm, also dropped by 42% with the entirety of EV demand shifted to off-peak hours.
