More infoThe drawing up of a new Local Plan in Redcar and Cleveland has stalled due to delays with national planning changes.
It is a requirement for local authorities to prepare such documents which act as a strategic blueprint for future potential development such as housing.
Predicting “further delays to plan preparation”, it also said it was not possible to give an accurate timescale for the length of any delay.
Local planning authorities would not, therefore, be able to carry out an early consultation - which they must undertake - under the existing system and a later consultation under the new system.
As a result local planning authorities have been handed new housing targets, with Redcar and Cleveland’s target increasing from 234 to 559 housing completions annually.
