House on the HillSet in Lutyens country, this ambitious residential extension and refurbishment project has taken a beautiful but dated 1930s property, and transformed it into a light, fresh and welcoming home for a growing family.
Lutyens houses are known for their homeliness, with double-height bay windows that become rooms of their own, sweeping rooflines and the multiple ways of creating dwelling spaces that are both of the house and the garden.
Throughout the project, Urban Projects Bureau experimented with windows, using them as a way to create different kinds of spatial relationships between the interior and exterior.
To complete the look of the project, Clement Windows Group manufactured all the bespoke steel windows and doors for the site.
The chimney leads people through the house, under the stairs and into the garden room, where occupants and visitors are confronted with a double-height view of the landscape beyond, and views through the staircase to the top of the house behind them.
