New York’s top financial regulator is stepping down after four years of service. Governor Kathy Hochul announced on September 29 that Superintendent Adrienne A. Harris will leave the Department of Financial Services (DFS) next month, with Kaitlin Asrow named as Acting Superintendent effective October 18. Harris, who was appointed in 2021, became the longest-serving superintendent in DFS history. During her tenure, the agency expanded its oversight of emerging financial technologies, recovered over $725 million in restitution for consumers, and strengthened protections around insurance, virtual currency, and pharmacy benefit managers. “It has been a privilege and an honor to serve New Yorkers,” Harris said in a statement, thanking Governor Hochul and the DFS team for their support.
