The Hidden History Behind the Royal State Banquet Menus
[]

Tonight marks another royal state banquet, this time with the British royals hosting U.S. President Donald Trump, along other American officials and guests.
However, the menus for tonight's dinner are in French.
The French language menu didn't stick out at the last state banquet, as it happened to be for French President Emmanuel Macron.
The French menus at royal state dinners actually date back to the Norman conquests of the 11th century, per the Huffington Post, at which time French became the official language of the court.
Despite the centuries that have passed, this tradition lives on and now menus for most formal royal dinners are in French.
