Bournemouth East Labour MP Tom Hayes is pleased with the Labour government's pledge to reintroduce targeted maintenance grants for students from the lowest-income households.
The grants, which will be means-tested, are set to be introduced by 2028.
They will provide financial support to tens of thousands of students on key courses from Levels 4–6, including technical qualifications and degrees.
Mr Hayes said: "As a working class kid and the first in my family to go to college and university, I know that Labour's new grants will change lives.
The announcement comes after Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson's visit to Bournemouth, where she met Bournemouth and Poole College, Bournemouth University and Health Sciences University.
