A survey of 219 Victorian politicians and councillors reveals most believe their various organisations are moderately or highly vulnerable to corruption. In all, 81% of politicians and 68% of local councillors said corruption was a problem in Victoria. Victorian councillors increased in number in 2024 from 620 to 636, but only 192 councillors (30.2%) bothered to respond to IBAC’s queries relating to corruption. “In line with 2022, almost all Victorian government employees agree corruption happens in Victoria (90%) and know what behaviour constitutes corruption (90%),” the 2024 survey results state. “The majority also agree that corruption is a problem in Victoria (69%), a significant increase when compared to 2022 (66%).
