Tasmania’s Right to Information system is in crisis, according to an independent review tabled in parliament this week.
The Right to Information framework, Tasmania’s equivalent of the FOI system, ranks in the bottom third of Australian jurisdictions.
But like the Commonwealth FOI system, late documents can take years for applicants to obtain.
Reviewers Tim McCormack and Rick Snell wrote that without meaningful reform, the right to know in Tasmania would remain “more theoretical than real”.
