In a first, the Senate confirms a new CDC director Susan Monarez is the first director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to require Senate confirmation. “When CDC Director Susan Monarez refused to rubber-stamp unscientific, reckless directives and fire dedicated health experts, she chose protecting the public over serving a political agenda. It is about the systematic dismantling of public health institutions, the silencing of experts, and the dangerous politicization of science. She was sworn in on July 31 — less than a month ago, making her the shortest-serving CDC director in the history of the 79-year-old agency.
