Cambodia Airways has announced the lease of its first turboprop aircraft, an ATR 72-600, in a move to strengthen its domestic and regional flight network.
With the new ATR 72-600, Cambodia Airways will expand flight frequencies and open new short-haul routes, particularly to destinations with shorter runways that are less suited for larger jet aircraft.
The airline currently operates a fleet of Airbus A320-family aircraft and the addition of a turboprop marks its first diversification into a new aircraft type.
This expansion is expected to increase competition with Air Cambodia, which also serves regional markets with turboprops.
The new hub is designed to handle both wide-body aircraft and smaller regional planes, further enhancing Cambodia’s connectivity.
