Typhoon Bualoi ravaged Vietnam’s northern central coast on Monday, killing at least 13 people, injuring 46, and forcing mass evacuations as strong winds and heavy rains destroyed homes, cut power lines, and flooded roads, according to government officials. Waves as high as eight meters hit the coastline, while floods and landslides blocked access to several areas, Reuters reported. “I stayed awake the whole night, fearing the door would be pulled off by strong winds,” Ho Van Quynh, a resident of Nghe An province, told Reuters. Officials said Bualoi damaged more than 44,000 homes, submerged nearly 6,000 hectares of crops, and left several regions without electricity. Authorities warned that heavy rains triggered by the typhoon would continue across much of Vietnam, raising the risk of severe flooding and landslides.
