The Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II, will on Tuesday, September 30th 2025, perform the age-long Emorọ otherwise known as ‘New yam festival’.
In a statement signed by the Secretary of the Benin Traditional Council, Frank Irabor, said the monarch used the period to pray for the good people of Edo State and Nigerians.
Accordingly, the traditional ruler appreciated all Edo indigenes, both at home and in the diaspora and non-indigenes that participated in the spiritual exercise.
He urged them to commence the consumption of Emorọ (new yam), while praying to God Almighty and his Royal ancestors to answer their prayers.
“Thereafter, all sons and daughters of the Benin Kingdom and, by extension, indigenes and non-indigenes living in Edo State who participated in the two-week fasting and prayer are to commence the eating of the new yams.
