A regional daily journalist who became synonymous with the title she served for 43 years has died aged 70. Pauline Leighton is believed to be the Swindon Advertiser’s longest-serving journalist, having joined the paper straight from school in 1973. Such was her legendary status at the Newsquest-owned title that her time at the paper saw her dubbed ‘Mrs Adver’. Pauline, pictured, died on 5th September, having been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer three months previously. She was appointed the newspaper’s first female features editor before becoming news editor, then its first woman deputy editor, acting editor and even temporary sports editor for a spell.
