A job-seeking journalist has launched a newsletter featuring ‘forgotten’ stories from a city’s past to showcase his talent. Thomas Barrett previously worked as a local democracy reporter for National World before leaving to go travelling in Asia last year. Now back in the UK and looking for work, he has launched Bury the Leeds to showcase his eye for a story. Trawling the British Newspaper Archive, Thomas has uncovered a series of ‘weird and wonderful’ tales from historic titles that once circulated in the city. As local democracy reporter for Harrogate and North Yorkshire, his work appeared in the Yorkshire Post, Harrogate Advertiser, Craven Herald, BBC Yorkshire, Darlington & Stockton Times and more.
